Brompton Tyres / Tubes
(and rim tape) for your Brompton folding bike
16 inch tyres / tubes
As Brompton folding bikes have been getting more popular - the tyre choice has been expanding. The Brompton 16 inch wheel / rim size has an ETRTO (European Tyre and Rim Technical Organisation) size of 349 and is compatible with the following tyres:
Brompton factory fitted 16 inch tyre options (as at 2026)
- Schwalbe Marathon Racer 35-349 / 16 x 1 1/3 - this is the standard (included at no extra cost) tyre
- Schwalbe Marathon 35-349 / 16 x 1.35 inch
- Schwalbe One Black (folding bead) - the factory fitted standard on the T Line (was available on P Line until 2022)
- Brompton Continental Contact Urban Black / Reflective (folding bead) - the factory fitted standard on the P Line
Brompton after market tyre options (as at 2026)
- Brompton Continental Contact Urban Tan wall / Black
- Schwalbe Marathon Racer Tan Wall / Black: 35-349 / 16 x 1 1/3 (this was first seen on the Brompton Explore special edition and available after market since 2021)

- Schwalbe Marathon Almotion Naked Wall folding tyre
- Brompton Schwalbe Kojak 32-349 / 16 1/4 inch - folding tyre with reflective sidewall
First you will need to know the valve type
- Schrader / car type valve
This has traditionally been the valve used on Brompton folding bikes - it fits through an 8mm diameter hole in the rim
- Presta / racing type valve
This has been used as standard on the T Line and on some P Line Brompton's - it fits through a 6mm hole in the rim
- Brompton inner tube by IMPAC - a subsidiary of Schwalbe - and made from recycled inner tubes, only available with a Schrader valve
- Schwalbe AV4 - our favourite - with a Schrader Valve and it has a Presta valve equivalent - SV4
- Tubolito - a much lighter (and brighter - they are orange) inner tube, made of TPU (plastic) - available in Schrader or Presta valves
Previous factory fitted tyres
- CHPT3 edition - Schwalbe Kojak 32-349 / 16 1/4 inch - tan wall
Non-Brompton tyres - compatible with Brompton folding bikes
The following tyres are also compatible with your Brompton, though not supplied by Brompton as a factory fit or after market option but by third parties:

- Schwalbe Marathon Plus 35-349 / 16 x 1.35 inch
- Brompton Schwalbe Kojak 35-349 / 16 1/4 inch tan-wall tyre (this was first seen on the CHPT3 special edition bikes and is sometimes available as an after market option)

- Continental Contact Urban creme wall folding tyre (introduced in 2022)
- Goodyear Eagle F1 30-349 / 1.2 inch folding bead tyre - available in Pink / Purple / Creme / Tan and Black colours
20 inch tyres / tubes
With the launch of the G Line came a larger - 20 inch wheel and tube. The Brompton 16 inch wheel / rim size has an ETRTO (European Tyre and Rim Technical Organisation) size of 406 and is compatible with the following tyres:
- Schwalbe G-One All Round 54-406 - this is a slightly nobble gravel tyre
- Continental Contact Urban 50-406 - this is the no-cost standard factory fitted tyre
First you will need to know the valve type
That is easy for the G Line - they have a 6mm hole in the rim and use:
- Presta / racing type valve
- Brompton inner tube by Schwalbe - actually a Schwalbe SV6 inner tube
- The wheels (in conjunction with Schwalbe G One tyres) can be set up tubeless
- Schwalve AV6 - 20 inch tube (in a box)
