Brompton C Line folding bikes

Brompton C Line folding bikes

The Brompton C Line is the "Core" range of Brompton bikes - available (since 2026) with two gearing choices:

  • 4-speed (introduced in 2025)
  • 12-speed (introduced in 2025)

About the Brompton C Line

All C Line Brompton folding bikes come with the following standard equipment - in previous years some of this was optional

  • Mudguards front and rear
  • Front carrier block for carrying luggage on the front of the Brompton

The C Line is available in 3 handlebar types / handlebar ride heights

  • Low - this was previously known as the S-type with a low / sporty ride position comparable with a drop handlebar racing / road bike
  • Mid - this is the classic Brompton handlebar type previously known as the M-type
  • High - this has the same shape bars as the Mid but with a slightly longer stem to give a more upright riding position as popular in The Netherlands / Germany and the Nordic countries. This handlebar type is also good for very tall riders who do't want to lean forwards too much when riding

The C Line comes as standard with a choice of 3 seat post heights

  • Standard - for riders with up to a 31 inch inside leg
  • Extended - for slightly taller riders with an inside leg up to 35 inches
  • Telescopic - for very tall riders
  • We also offer a shorter (6cm shorter than the standard) seat post for very short riders

The C Line comes in a range of colours - for 2026 these are:

  • Black
  • Bumblebee Yellow
  • Dune Sand
  • Gloss Black Lacquer
  • Ocean Blue
  • Racing Green

Additionally the 12-speed C Line also is also available in:

  • Flamingo Pink
  • Turkish Green
  • Amethyst Lacquer

With regards to colour the Brompton C Line bike can have (with the exception of the Gloss Black Lacquer) different colour frame and extremities (so for example a red main frame and green forks, rear triangle and handlebar stem)

To configure your own - just choose the following:

1/ Frame:

The Brompton bike range (from model year 2022) consists of the following ranges:

  • A Line

The entry level Brompton using value components, previously known as the B75

  • C Line

The Core Line with all steel frame and extremities

  • G Line

The new (for 2024) 20 inch wheel Brompton folding bike

  • P Line

The Performance Line with titanium forks and rear triangle and a host of weight saving features

  • T Line

The all titanium super lightweight Brompton folding bike

2/ Colour(s):

Choose your colour from the following colours for 2024/25 - C-Line models:

The 2025/26 the available colours are

  • Matt Black
  • Amethyst Lacquer
  • Cloud Metallic
  • Dune Sand
  • Palm Green
  • Plum Red

3/ Handlebar type

The Brompton historically came with a choice of four handlebar types:

  • Mid / M-type - this is the traditional Brompton style handlebar (it was re-modelled in 2017 to have a lower rise for improved stiffness - though a slightly increased stem height helps the overall height the same).
  • Low / S-type - this is a straight handlebar similar to that found on a mountain bike, to give a more sporty riding position.
  • High / H-type - this is the same shape as the M-type bar, but in conjunction with a longer stem gives a higher riding position - designed for the taller rider or those used to the European (Dutch / Swedish) riding position
  • P-type - now discontinued (since 2020) this was a multi-position style handlebars, especially useful for touring where you can benefit from taking different riding positions during long days in the saddle.

Note: The stem length on the frame is different for each type of handlebar - so it is not easy to change the handlebar type to a different one later

4/ Gears

Historically, the Brompton folding bike came from the factory with a choice of one, two, three or six gears. The single speed was discontinued in 2021

The one and two speed rear wheel were actually the same - with different sprockets and chain tensioner

The two and six speed bikes used a Brompton specific derailleur

Three and six speed bikes use a 3 speed hub gear (though different on the three speed compared to the six speed). The six speed bike combines the derailleur and a wide ratio hub gear to give a total of six. The P Line uses a 4 speed derailleur system

  • 2 speed = Urban
  • 4 speed
  • 6 speed = Explore

Notes:
1 speed C Line was discontinued with the 2022 model range
3 speed (utility) was discontinued with the 2023 model range - with the exception of the A Line

Since 2025 there are now two options:

  • 4-speed
  • 12-speed

5/ Front luggage

All Brompton come with lugs on the front ready for fitting a front carrier block. Brompton luggage is designed to easily click on and off of the front carrier block and comes in a wide variety of sizes and colours to suit your needs

Since the launch of the 2021 range - the front carrier block has been included as standard on the C Line (Core) range of bikes

6/ Mudguards

With the introduction of the new range designation - all C Line bikes now come with mudguards

Previously the bike came with 3 options:
a/ No mudguards
b/ Mudguards only
c/ Mudguards and rack
The mudguards provide very good protection from water on the road

7/ Roller wheels

Roller wheels help the bike sit well and roll when folded. Larger roller wheel options are available

8/ Tyres

Brompton folding bikescome from the factory with a  choice of tyres on the C Line:

  • Brompton Schwalbe Marathon Racer 16 x 1 1/3 - new for 2018
  • Schwalbe Marathon
  • Schwalbe Kojak - a lightweight racing tyre (folding tyre bead)

The P Line comes with a choice of the following:

  • Brompton Schwalbe One (when available)
  • Continental Contact Urban
  • Brompton Schwalbe Marathon Racer

9/ Saddle

The bike comes with a choice of the following saddles from the Factory

  • Brompton standard - 147mm wide
  • Brompton wide - 167mm wide
  • Brooks B17 special mens (brown)
  • Brooks B17 special short / ladies (brown)

Since the pandemic starting in 2020 there has been a saddle shortage and the above saddles were sometimes replaced with Fizik or Brooks Cambium saddles

10/ Seat height

There is a choice of three seat heights:

  • Standard - for those with an inside leg of up to 33 inches
  • Extended (an extra 6cm longer) for riders with an inside leg of up to 35 inches
  • Telescopic (two parts which slide into each other) for very tall riders - this is at an extra cost

11/ Suspension

Until 2018, the rear suspension block came in standard (for riders up to 70kg) and firm for heavier riders or those just wanting a firmer ride
From 2018 onwards there is just the one suspension block - equivalent to the old firm/hard susension block

12/ Reflectors/Lighting

As standard the bike comes with front and rear reflectors
A hub dynamo system is also available, the older Shimano or SON front wheel powered hub dynamos are about to be replaced (for 2019 model bikes) with a new hub dynamo system
Front and rear battery lights with Brompton specific mountings (so as not to interfere with the fold) are also available - there is a CatEye Volt 400 for the front and a choice of saddle mounted CatEye (requires one of the newer saddles with fixing points) and Spanninga rear light
