Brompton Handlebar Grips
Brompton handlebar grips
Handlebar grips are important - because they are one of just three contact points between you and the bike (along with the saddle and pedals)
Brompton handlebar types
There are 4 Brompton models - defined by handlebar type:
- S type - Straight / Sports - now known as low
- M type - the traditional Brompton style handlebars - now known as mid
- H type - is actually the same bars as the M type - with a higher stem - now known as high
- P type - multi-Positional bars - ideal for touring (discontinued by Brompton in 2020)
Brompton handlebar grip types
There is a slight complication in that M-type / H-type bars changed in 2017 from low rise to high rise, so for grips there are the following possibilities:
- P type (discontinued in 2020 - we would recommend using road bike bar tape)
- M type / H-type as used on the B75 edition and pre-2017 (high rise version) - these grips are 100mm in length
- S type (all) / M type / H type 2017 onwards (low rise version) - these grips are 130mm in length (this is pretty standard)
So the grips for M/H type bars (since 2017) and S-type are the same - they are 130mm lock on - quite common through the bike world, meaning you now have a greater choice of grips for your Brompton
Ergon grips
We have included the Ergon grips here as they were fitted on the Brompton CHPT3 2017/2018 edition - Ergon GA2 (in red) and on the NYC edition - Ergon GP2.
The Ergon grips are designed specifically to give you a more comfortable ride
Brooks Slender GripShift grips
We have included the Brooks Slender leather grips - as these are shorter than standard grips and we think are ideal as an upgrade for B75 / high rise (pre-2017 bars) where there is less room for the grips (this is because of the sharper bend on the old handlebars)
