Brompton 50T BLACK crank set

This 50 tooth Brompton "Spider" crankset was introduced on new Brompton bicycles at the beginning of 2013. In 2015 it was introduced to the after-sales market.

This is the BLACK edition 50T crankset (chainring and cranks are black).

This BLACK crankset was initially only available on the BLACK special edition Brompton range (a limitied release of BLACK edition bikes was launched as the first models of the year - i.e. in October 2016 the new 2017 range, with new model features such as integrated brakes / shifters was released - just on the BLACK edition, with standard models following later).

The BLACK components were released to the after-market during 2017 (initially they were only available on the BLACK edition bikes. Even after release to the after market, availability was somewhat limited)

This is a replacement BLACK 50 tooth crank set complete with left and right hand crank - bottom bracket is NOT included and if you are upgrading from the old fixed crankset then this should also be changed..

Spider crankset features:

The Brompton "spider" crankset has some advantages over the older fixed crankset:

  • The chainring protector is held on with screws rather than plastic lugs so is less liable to falling off
  • The chainring can be changed without the need to replace the crank as well (making it easier to change gear ratio) , simply undo the 5 chain ring bolts and replace with a 44 tooth ring for lower gearing or a 54 tooth ring for higher gearing
  • Better protection of folding pedal to stop it scratching the frame. A lug on the back of the crank stops the pedal folding back too far (you should still make sure the pedal is unfolded as the first part of the unfold and folded as the last part of the fold to stop it scratching the frame) 

 

The 50 tooth crankset comes in a pack contains the following:
Left hand crank and bolt - black
Right hand crank with 50T chainring and chainguard (pre-fitted) and crank bolt 

Crank length 170mm
Brompton logo on cranks 

A standard 3 or 6 speed Brompton BLACK edition comes with this 50 tooth front chain ring

Also available in silver (the silver 50 tooth crank set is as provided on standard 3 or 6 speed Bromptons)
