Complete with fitting diagram |
Removal:
- To separate the steer hinge clamp (SHC) from the fork steer (FS), fold the handlebar support (HBS) to reveal the preload bolt (PB) in the center of the SHC
- Undo the bolt and remove it
- Undo all 4 steerer hinge bolts (SHCB) by 3-4 turns - Do not remove completely to prevent the steerer clamp plate SCP from falling out, then gently twist the SHC and pull upwards to separate it from the fork steerer (FS)
Fitting:
- Lightly grease all bearings and mating surfaces, before fitting, this includes the headset, the steerer hinge clamp and the head of the bolts
- You should also grease the inside of the fork steerer
- Avoid getting grease on the clamping surfaces!
- Fit the 40MM headset angular contact bearing ACB on the fork - do not forget to grease!
- Fit the other angular contact bearing (ACB) - the 30.2MM in the top cup of the headtube (HT), grease lightly, followed by the headset compression ring (HCR)
- Insert the fork steerer into the head tube (HT), ensuring that all parts are aligned and seated correctly
- Fit the steerer clamp ring seal (SCR)
- Fit the steerer head clamp (SHC) body over the fork steerer (FS); insert and tighten preload the preload bolt (PB) to 3Nm
- Unfold the handlebar support HBS and align the handlebar to the front wheel
- Partially tighten the two right steerer clamp hinge bolts SHCB looking towards the front of the bike followed by the two left bolts
- Check that the handlebar is in alignment with the front wheel
- This is best out of the stand
- Tighten the 2 right Steerer head clamp bolts (SHCB) to 4Nm followed by the two left bolts (left and right when looking at the bike)
- The Correct torque is very important to ensure that the handlebars do not twist in use!!!
- It is vital that you apply the correct torque. If the bolts are not tightened enough, the handlebars could twist in use, if over-tightened you could be damaged
- Ensure the cables are routed around the non-drive side of the Handlebar support (HBS)
- Check the position of the handlebar catch!
