Brompton 96 link chain
Brompton replacement chain by SRAM for Brompton folding bikes equiped with the lower gearing 44 tooth front chainring and a 13t or 14t single rear sprocket.
96 link 1/2" x 3/32" chain with SRAM powerlink
The 96 link chain is used on a 1 or 3 speed Brompton folding bike with a single rear sprocket of 12/13 or 14 teeth in conjunction with a 44 tooth (reduced gearing) front chain ring
This 98 link chain is for use on Brompton folding bikes with a 12 tooth, 13 tooth or 14 tooth single rear sprocket and a 44 tooth front chainring.
A standard 3 speed Brompton bike comes with a 50 tooth chainring, if this has been changed to a 44 tooth chainring, then the chain length reduces by 2 from the standard 98 link chain - giving this 96 link chain.
You should always replace the rear sprocket when you replace the chain - as they wear together. Replacing just the sprocket or chain will result in quicker wear and may immediately start slipping under pressure.
Tools Required:
To remove your old chain you may need a chain tool such as the CT-3 / CT-5 from Park Tool or a pair of master link pliers
Installing this new one is easy as it has a SRAM powerlink - making firring a fairly painless process.
